I have the sad news this week that Hellgate's development has been indefinitely suspended until further notice. If the game was to come out in the near future, it won't be on Dreamcast. I apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the title and the disappointment over the title's shelving. The Sega announcement that they were ceasing production of Dreamcast hardware wasn't much of a help, as well as the fact one or two members of our team didn't have the game's best interest at heart.
I am extremely disappointed with this, as many of our team worked inhuman hours to try and rescue things, and although the art side of the game is more or less finished, the programming side of the game was inconsistant at best - Bigfish excluded, as he brilliantly communicated well with artists, changing code where necessary. We had spent 15 months developing the title, and although many of us felt we achieved so much, it wasn't enough to save the title.
Updated - Diary section plus new Hellgate screenshots - think of them as what could of been.
Out of this sad news, we will soon be giving you an insight on our next project, so stay tuned.
Howdy, pardners... once again, the Diary section has recieved its usual addition, and I'm happy to report that those Hellgate screenshots will be on this page next update. The Horny Dog art team are putting the finishing touches to our next project, seeming the programming side of Hellgate is still in semi-limbo after the team's reorganisation. Nothing can be said on this new project, just that it'll be announced around E3 time (mid-May) and we will DEFINITELY have footage of it soon after. Rather more exciting is the prospect of a live diary for this project. More on this soon.
At last! The team section has been updated! Now we've got a new Project Leader called Miserable F**ker (hoho) and we've set up a Team RIP section as well for those from Horny Dog who have moved on. We also have the usual update on the Diary section. We did promise AGES back some Hellgate video, but we'll soon have some all-new screenshots for you! Stay tuned... There is also a news archive - check below this text.
I also found time (at last) to do some testing on Dream Key on the Dreamcast to see how well this webpage survives, and it actually seems more or less unchanged from the PC except image maps on the main logo are knackered and the forum will work only if you have the Parental Lock off on the Dreamcast browser.
